‘Staff Party’ is an immersive experience conceptualised to celebrate and appreciate the role music and arts have played in helping us cope in the most mundane moments of COVID-19. With Daniel’s research in the realms of ‘advanced interaction design’ and ‘experimental visual communications’, he has developed a multimedium, envirospatial live performance with the underlying focus of ‘ludic design’. The experience involves the incorporation of tangible user input through interacting with the desk, kinetic visual output through the projection of motion graphics, and an omnipresence of auditory stimulation provided by the musician’s steady supply of bangers.
In what seems like a past life ago, we lived in a world wonder, exploration and rejoice. However, recent dangers and restriction as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak have halted our recreational lifestyle and forced us into new ways of working. Entertainment went down: depression went up. At long last, we are coming out the other side of the pandemic with new ways of thinking. People are quitting their jobs, opting to work from home, eager to travel, and have a new appreciation for the arts.

The ‘Staff Party’ desk set up has been assembled to hold and hide an ‘unconventional’ MIDI controller. 11 buttons, 6 potentiometers and 2 switches have been concealed in typical office space supplies. These control and alter the live visuals through a program called Resolume Avenue. Daniel has created an interactive live performance that incites curiosity and playfulness in the most banal of environments. Sometimes to boost productivity, we need a little ‘Staff Party’.
